Obituary

Raymond Stradinger, age 86, of Rapid City, went home to be with his personal Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, September 26, 2010, at Westhills Village in Rapid City after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born on May 16,1924, at home in Isabel, South Dakota, to David and Magdalena Stradinger. He attended country school and worked on the family farm. Ray married Glendoris E. Wengenroth on September 5,1946. The couple farmed and ranched near Isabel until 1969 when they moved to Rapid City where they became partners in the Hirsch-Stradinger Candy Company. After they sold the company Ray continued to work for them as a salesman. He also held various other sales positions and finished his working years at Geidel Construction Company. He retired in 2003. On April 9, 2007, he married Lavonne Waldner. He was a member of South Canyon Baptist Church where he served faithfully for many years in various capacities. Ray enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and spending time with his family and friends. He was a very gentle, kind, and compassionate man. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Survivors include his wife, Lavonne, Rapid City; three daughters from his first marriage, Becky (Jerry ) Hull, Collierville, Tennessee; Susan (Larry) Odegaard, Rapid City; Sandy (Steve) Johnson, Centennial, Colorado; eight grandchildren, Alison (Hull) Bobbitt and husband Nolan, Michael Hull and wife Amy, Shaun, Chad and Karah Odegaard, Christopher, Zachary and Laura Johnson, and two great grandchildren; Madalyn Bobbitt and Noah Hull; two brothers, Oscar(Mavis) Stradinger, Rapid City, Rudy(Barb) Stradinger, Spearfish, South Dakota. He is also survived by three step sons and one step daughter; Jerry (Diane) Waldner, Mesa, Arizona, Joanne (Daryl) Ling, Harrisburg, South Dakota, Gregg Waldner, Wamsutter, Wyoming, Michael (Lori) Waldner, Madison, South Dakota; nine step grandchildren and five step great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Glennie, in 2005, his parents, and one infant son, Richard Lee Stradinger. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with a prayer service to follow on Friday, October 1,2010, at the Osheim and Schmidt Funeral Home. Services will be 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 2, 2010, at South Canyon Baptist Church with the Rev. Brent Reeves officiating. Burial will be at Pine Lawn Memorial Park. The family has designated a memorial to the National Foundation for Cancer Research or the Leukemia Lymphoma Society.
