Richard (Dick) Boyd Sr. finished his last 8 second ride on Saturday, August 8th at the Hospice House in Rapid City, South Dakota. He was a man who never hesitated to lend a helping hand, no matter the time of day or night. Born March 14, 1940, he lived a life defined by strength, honesty, and a true cowboy spirit.

Richard was a devoted husband and is survived by wife Mary Boyd and their children from this union—Holly Hammond, Tracy Medearis and Sarah Boyd as well as his children from a previous marriage—Anna Cutler, Richard Boyd Jr and Amber Hopkins.

He is preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Adell Boyd, son Morris Boyd, siblings Ed Boyd, Sonny Boyd and Marie Waln. He is also survived by siblings Robert (Bob) Boyd, Donna Richards and Carmen Driving Hawk several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Family was always the most important part of his life.

A true cowboy at heart and a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan, he found joy in hard work, simple pleasures, and time spent with those he loved. His kindness, generosity, and unwavering willingness to help others will be remembered by all who knew him. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy of love, service, and cowboy grit will live on forever.

His Memorial Service will be 10:00 am Thursday, August 13, 2026 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with Rev. Jonathan Old Horse officiating.
