RAPID CITY- Richard Charles Leinen, 83, died Friday, January 4, 2018 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
He was born on June 30, 1935 in Ashton, South Dakota to Charles and Minnie (Lambert) Leinen. He worked for the Homestake Gold Mine in the mid 1950's.
Richard married Luella Marlow in 1955. They were married for 27 years and raised two children, Laurel and Shawn.
After working as a Boiler Inspector for years, he started his own small business (R-L Mid West Boiler Service) as a boiler repairman in 1976. He served in the Army National Guard for 24 years, retiring as a Major.
He met Jeanette Bjugstad, a very special friend, in the early 1990's. They enjoyed traveling together over the years.
He was preceded in death by his son, Shawn Leinen; parents: Charles and Minnie; and all four siblings: Frank, Marjory, Franny, and Lyle.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Laurel (Steve) Sahli; grandchildren: Eric, Alyssa, Max; great grandson, Noah; special friend, Jeanette Bjugstad; and beloved poodle, Ginger.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 9, at Canyon Lake United Methodist Church. Visitation will be for one hour prior to services.
Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
