Richard "Rip" E. Roland, 83, Rapid City, passed peacefully Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Fountain Springs Health Care. Rip was born December 9, 1929, in Michigan, North Dakota to Alice [Alvina] and Palmer Roland. He graduated from Scobey High School in Scobey, Montana where he was an active participant in football, basketball, and baseball. Rip went to Northern Montana College at Havre, Montana where he received his two year teaching certificate. He taught at a rural school at Wesby, Montana for a short time. He began a career in direct sales in Minnesota and worked throughout the Midwest. In 1976, Rip met Len Collins in Bowman, North Dakota and began selling siding. He moved to Rapid City in 1977 and continued his sales career with Collins Siding and made his home in Rapid City. He retired in 1995. Rip was an active member of the Alano Society and touched many lives with his wit and program straightforwardness. He always had a bit of "Rip" wisdom for anyone who would listen and was dedicated to friends. Rip is survived by his sister: Delores Danelson of Scobey, Montana; his brother: Robert [Leatha] Roland of Rapid City; many nephews and nieces; and an extended family of friends: Jackie and Brett Swanson and family, Lynn and Perry Grosz, Mary Jo Arnold and family, Scott Highland, and Kathy Moen and family were among those held most dear. He was preceded in death by his parents Alice and Palmer and step-mother Irene. Memorial services will be at 4:00 pm Monday, February 18, 2013 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, 2700 Jackson Boulevard. A dinner will follow at the Shrine Club at 5:30 pm.
