Obituary

Richard G. Rugg, age 87, died on Friday, May 12, 2017, at Rapid City Regional Hospital Auxiliary Hospice House.    He had been residing at Echo Ridge Manor.

Richard was born on May 21, 1929, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, to Walter and Florence (Christiansen) Rugg.

He served in the US Army and was awarded the WWII Army of Occupation Service Medal.

After his service, Richard attended Northrup Aeronautical Institute and was employed by United Airlines for 38 years as Aircraft Maintenance.  He was married to Joanne Duberstine on June 26, 1954.

He always had a youthful attitude with years of experience to share and was never stopped by life's obstacles.  Richard would find a way through.  He also had a great love of the pyramids.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Joanne; sons David (Christine Ribic) Rugg of Madison, Wisconsin, Christopher (Elizabeth) Rugg of Huntersville, North Carolina and Mark (Karen) Rugg of Rapid City as well as numerous grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Florence Rugg and brother Walter Rugg

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 17, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with the Rev. Becky Piper officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to services.

Burial, with military honors rendered by the VFW Post 1273 and the South Dakota Army National Guard will be later in Black Hills National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Echo Ridge or Calvary Lutheran Church.
