Riney Lind 86 of Rapid City died of natural causes Friday, December 25, 2020 in Rapid City.
Riney was born June 12, 1934 in Morrill, NE to Wilhelm and Eva (Lind) Lind. He attended Torrington High School where he was a basketball standout, graduating in 1953. He enlisted into the U.S. Army and was inducted on April 19, 1955 at Camp Carson, CO. From there he was assigned as a clerk at the U.S. Army Transportation School, Fort Story, VA. During his 2 years in the Army, he was promoted to Specialist, Third Class, earned the Expert Marksman and Driver Badges, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on April 18, 1957. From there he attended Scottsbluff College, and the University of Wyoming where he graduated with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1962. He worked for Hercules, Inc. from 1962 - 1967, then worked as a Civil Engineer for the Department of the Air Force for 26 years, permanently retiring in 1993. On December 29, 1959 he married Janet Lee Smiley. The couple lived in Salt Lake City, UT for several years, then resided in Ogden, UT from 1971 until 1995. In Ogden he was an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church for many years. After their three sons graduated high school, the couple settled in Rapid City, SD and were active in the Canyon Road Senior Center for many years.
Riney is survived by sons; Jeffrey L. Lind of Las Vegas, NV, Greg A. Lind (and Jenny) of Suffolk, VA, Mark A. Lind of Farr West, UT, granddaughters; Ashley E. Lind of Fort Rucker, AL, Madison E. Lind of Yorktown, VA, and grandson; Samuel A. Lind of Farr West, UT, sister Helen I. Van Wyngarden of Arvada, CO, and brother Wayne L. (and Janet) of Maricopa, AZ.
Riney was preceded in death by his wife Janet, his parents, 2 sisters, and 12 brothers.
