Obituary

Rapid City – Rita Allgeyer, 92, died Sunday, September 23, 2018 at the Mercy Hospital at East Dubuque, Illinois.

Rita was born March 27, 1926 in a 3-story farm house in Sinsinawa, Wisconsin. Moving from the farm, she grew up in East Dubuque, IL. With her 5 brothers and 1 sister. Recess was her favorite subject playing "jacks" and jumping rope. (Imagine no phones and video games!) She and her siblings attending Catholic schools from grade school through high school.

In 1948 she married Jack Allgeyer who was a friend to several of her brothers, and probably a prerequisite before he could date their sister!

They had 2 daughters, Karen & Debra and moved to Rapid City when the girls were still young.

Rita could pretty much sew anything and made many of her own, and her daughters' clothes. (These talents were not passed on to her daughters.) Mostly a homemaker, but when things were a little tight on the purse strings, or they needed a little extra money she cleaned houses part time when the girls were in school.

Later she put her sewing talents to work and sewed draperies for "Drapes by Millie" and gained new friendships that would last her lifetime.

Rita was an avid bowler and loved her women's' bowling leagues along with the mixed league she bowled with her husband Jack.

She wasn't big into volunteering with organizations but was there on the day to day needs of others around her. Quick to offer a ride to church or take someone out for a meal. She was a great sounding board and listener for her daughters and always held them in prayer. I'm sure she is our greatest cheerleader in Heaven.

Rita was a loving wife of 50 years until Jack passed away, a devoted mother, mother-in-law, sister, sister-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She valued her friends as family. Quick to laugh at herself, she had a very "common sense" view of people around her and of life itself. She was the first to offer help and the last to ask for it. She was never afraid of work and quick to roll up her sleeves and get her hands dirty. The world was truly a better place when she was still here. She is now in the company of Jesus Christ her Savior and all of the loved ones that have gone on before her.

Rita will be sorely missed by all of us left behind, though she will always live in our hearts and our thoughts. Her passing was sudden and unexpected, but peaceful and without pain. She spent her last hours not knowing what was coming surrounded by family in East Dubuque, laughing, loving, and being loved. Her heart was full and her soul was blessed. She lived a good life and a faithful life and her reward is complete in Christ. We will meet again!

Rita was preceded in death by her husband Jack in 1998, her sister, 3 of her brothers and 4 of her sisters-in-law. She is survived and missed by Karen (Allgeyer) and Doyle Nehl, Debra (Allgeyer) and John Strauss, Francis and Pearl Rosemeyer, Joe Rosemeyer, and Grandsons, Travis Carter and Craig Carter, and great grandchildren Avery and Landon Carter. Also surviving are a whole slew of nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm Sunday, September 30 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.

Christian Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:00 am Monday, October 1 at Blessed Sacrament Church.

Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.
