Obituary

Robert [Bob] Fredelon Labor was born at home in the Piedmont Valley, South Dakota area on April 2, 1936. His home birth along Bethlehem Cave Road was a thrill for his parents: William Fredelon and Mamie Marie (DeGeest) Labor and three sisters. The family story went that if the family moved to the Black Hills, they would have a boy.  It worked, then two years later, his brother arrived.

A few years later the family moved to the South Canyon area of Rapid City. He resided in this area for the rest of his life.

Bob's first school years were spent at Upper Rapid School (now Vanway Trophy).  In 1957 he graduated from Rapid City High School.

Following high school, he had various jobs until he became a Ready-Mix truck Driver for the Transit Mix/Central Mix/Pete Lien company.  After 40 years behind the wheel, Bob retired to spend time tinkering in the yard and his garage. (Dianne was never sure what "toys" might be bought as she was still working.)

In the summer of 1959 he met Dianne Frances Forrette who would become his wife on August 25, 1962. To this union were born three children: Dean Robert, Cindy Ann, and Sheri Lynn.

Following Dianne's lead in her involvement with Girl Scouts, the Benevolent, Patriotic Order of Does USA (Rapid City Drove #33), and Camp Friendship, Bob was "willingly" dragged along to participate.

Though long hours  of work kept him from intense participation, he did find time, when possible, to assist with Dean's activities in Boy Scouts.

Bob was a life member of two  Rapid City organizations: Loyal Order of  Moose #1137, and Rapid City Elks Lodge #1187 which he joined in 1966. Bowling several nights a week didn't seem to help his handicap, but he really liked the "beer frames".

Over the years, he (sometimes reluctantly) travelled to numerous conventions and meetings of the BPO Does.  In 1973 at the Does National Convention in Hawaii, he became a member of the Bullshippers of the USA. (This group has fun and supports the Does in their work.)

Throughout their life together, the great outdoors ---especially the Black Hills---were their happy place. From the beginning a "family Sunday drive---no matter the weather"---was a must. As time went on, they became "snowbirds" in Texas and Arizona.  At the conclusion of their snowbird years, they parked the 5th wheel at Mystic Hills Campground in the Black Hills and spent many summers taking in the beautiful area.  Not satisfied with sitting around and wanting to see more, Bob decided that a side-by-side was a necessity.  Another victory for nature.

He is survived by his wife, Dianne Forrette Labor, children: Dean Robert (Erika) Labor, Rapid City;  Cindy Andrews, Highlands Ranch, Colorado; and Sheri (Marty) Pahkamaa, North Pole, AK.  8 grandchildren: Sara Labor, Rapid City; McCartney (Travis) Hovell, Las Vegas, NV; Ally Green and fiancé, Zach Sibal, Mesa, AZ; Oliver Graeme Garrison and fiancée, Rebecca VanBebber, Edmonds, WA., Noelle (Andrew) Johnson Sioux Falls, SD; Tiffani (Jason) French, Rapid City; Jacoppi and Ellison Pahkamaa, North Pole, AK.

4 great-grandchildren: Carson & Kimber French, Rapid City; Emma and Ava Johnson, Sioux Falls, SD.

Surviving him are brothers-in-law: Dee Watson, Brookings, SD and Herman Boner, Casper, WY and sister-in-law, Cathy (Bill) Labor, Rapid City, SD.  Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins and his "kids" from Camp Friendship.

Preceding him in death were his parents and four siblings: Lois (Dee) Watson,  Brookings, SD; Charlotte (Herman) Boner, Casper, WY; Donna (Chuck) Trentz, Lead, SD, and Bill (Cathy) Labor, Rapid City, SD. Brother-in-law, Chuck Trentz also preceded him in death.
