Obituary

Rapid City — Robert "Bob" Jacobson, 95, passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Monument Health Home Plus Hospice House.

Robert Fay Jacobson was born on August 6, 1930, at home on the family farm near Woonsocket, SD, to Elvin and Thelma (Johnson) Jacobson. He attended country school through the 8th grade and graduated from Woonsocket High School in 1948. On January 23, 1952, he entered the United States Army and served overseas in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on January 6, 1954.

Robert married Barbara Atkins on January 16, 1952, and together they welcomed three children: Bruce Allen, Brenda Sue, and Brian Robert. Their marriage ended in 1962.

He worked as a route salesman for Terrace Park Dairy in Huron, SD. On December 15, 1962, Robert married Enzie Engler, and they were blessed with two children, Carla Enzie and Scott Elfred. The family moved to Hot Springs in 1964 and later settled in Rapid City in 1965. Robert worked as a route salesman for Swander Baking Company (later Metz Baking Company) for 29 years, retiring in 1993.

After retirement, Robert and Enzie embraced life on the road. They purchased a 30-foot travel trailer and a Chevrolet Suburban, stored their belongings, and spent several years traveling the Southwest—Arizona, Nevada, California, New Mexico, and Texas— including one memorable winter in the Brownsville area. After five years, they returned to apartment living, continuing to enjoy shorter trips, attending their granddaughters' sporting events, and caring for friends' pets during the summer. One of their most memorable experiences was house- and pet-sitting for a family in Scottsdale, Arizona—turning strangers into lifelong friends. Never ones to take retirement too seriously, they also helped Robert's brother by running a Highway Contract mail route one summer and assisting with carpentry and mail routes another summer.

Bob and Enzie were dedicated members of Sons of Norway, holding numerous offices, serving on committees, and attending many conventions as delegates for the Borgund 1-532 Lodge of Rapid City. Bob also served several years on the board of directors for Chapel in the Hills, where the couple volunteered many hours in the chapel's store and museum during tourist seasons. Their faith was central to their lives, and they were devoted members of Calvary Lutheran Church of Rapid City. Whether at home or traveling, they rarely missed a worship service and formed meaningful connections with congregations and pastors across the country.

Robert is survived by his wife, Enzie of Rapid City; children: Brenda (John) Bosch of Dandridge, TN, Carla (Scott) Richardt of Rapid City, Bruce (Kelly) Jacobson of Dandridge, TN, Brian (Rhonda) Jacobson of Penryn, CA, and Scott Jacobson of Rapid City; 17 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Delvin (Clarice) Jacobson of Rapid City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
