Obituary

Rapid City – Robert "Bob Jr." Malone, 63, died Sunday, February 26, 2023 at the Department of Veteran Affairs Fort Meade Medical Center at Fort Meade, SD.

Robert George Malone was born May 16, 1959 in Kankakee, Illinois to Robert James and Charlotte Margret (Hayes) Malone. The family moved from Longmont, CO to Rapid City in 1966. He attended school at Saint Martins and graduated from high school.

Bob Jr served in the United States Navy where he served on submarines. He entered the Navy on June 27, 1979 and was honorably medically discharged on March 11, 1982.

After his discharge from the military he returned to Rapid City and became associated with the Elks Lodge #1187. Whatever project, and there were many, that needed some volunteers, Bob was the first one to offer to help out. He was an officer, past Elk of the Month, past Elk of the Year, and for many years would golf with his father, brother, and friends at the Elks Golf Course. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, and playing poker. He was a fan of the Las Vegas Raiders. Bob Jr. had great enjoyment transporting other Vets from the VA Center in Sturgis to Deadwood and the Elks Lodge in Rapid City for dinners, bingo and other fun activities.

Urnbearer will be Joe Allen. Honorary Urnbearers will be Nick Rottman, Ken Czerak, Jane Stevens, and Scotty Sahli.

Bob Jr. is survived by his brother: Patrick (Nancy) Malone of Rapid City; two sisters: Gail (Dodge) Butler of Sioux Falls, SD and Shannon (Dean) Meisner of Rapid City; special friend: Joseph Allen; and nieces and nephews: Mark, Molly, Kristin, Kelli, Kyla, Kasi, and Lindsay; and several great friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, Bob Jr requested donations to made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

Public Memorial Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Monday, April 10 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.

Christian Memorial Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Tuesday, April 11 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.

Entombment of cremains will be at 2:00 pm on Tuesday at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD with full military honors.

Arrangements are with Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.
