RAPID CITY- Robert G. Olson, DDS, 73, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013, at his home in Rapid City. Robert was born in Eureka, SD in 1939 to Dr. A. G. and Rosella Olson. He attended high school in Rapid City at Cathedral High School. He then attended the University of Minnesota where he earned his Bachelor's Degree and Doctor of Dental Surgery. He practiced Dentistry in Rapid City, SD from August 3, 1963 to August 3, 2003, when he retired. Robert "Bob" served as President of the Rapid City and District Dental Associations. He was appointed to two consecutive terms on the South Dakota State Board of Dentistry and was then hired by the Board of Dentistry as the Executive Secretary where he continued to serve until his retirement from the board. During this time he also spent 15 years on the Central Regional Dental Testing Service. He was a Fellow of the American College of Dentists, The International College of Dentistry, the College of Dentistry International, and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. In 1961, Bob married Judith Reedy and they had six wonderful children. They raised their children and traveled the world together, their marriage ended in 1992. He was remarried in 1998 to Brenda Young and they enjoyed many wonderful years together in southern Florida before she passed away in 2005 from cancer. After losing Brenda, Bob returned to Rapid City to spend time with his children and grandchildren. He spent the rest of his years watching his many grandchildren swim and play soccer, hockey, football, basketball, baseball, and tennis. He always enjoyed traveling and made many trips to Disneyworld with his children and grandchildren. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. A.G. and Rosella Olson. He is survived by his sons, Dr. Jeff (Lanette) Olson of Rapid City, Jon (Mary) Olson of Honolulu, HI., Jason (Teresa) Olson of Rapid City, and Jeremy (Michele) Olson of Rapid City, and his daughters, Jennifer (Jon) Rauhouse of Lilliwaup, WA., and Jaime (Jim) Clemens of Gilbert, AZ., and a stepson, Matt Young of Ft. Lauderdale, FL., and finally his 15 amazing grandchildren, Tyler O., Zack, Avery, Tyler C., Jack, Trae, Ryan, Alivia, Cassie, Taron, Tatum, Jetzon, Charles, Alexis, and Erika. He also enjoyed the support and friendship of his former wife Judy Duhamel and her husband Bill. Visitation will be on Monday, January 7, 2012 from 6pm-7pm at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral home with a memorial service immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that all memorials be sent to Wellspring Family Based Services at 3402 Cottonwood St., Rapid City, SD. 57702 in honor of Dr. Robert Olson.
