IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert "Bob"
P Dorsey
January 21, 1937 – April 3, 2023
Robert "Bob" P. Dorsey, 86, died while in hospice care on Monday, April 3, 2023.
Bob was born on January 21, 1937, in Keyser, West Virginia to John P. Dorsey and Gladys D. (Miller) Dorsey. He resided in Keyser until the family later moved to Roanoke, Virginia where he attended St. Andrews Catholic School. The family then moved to Norfolk, Virginia where he attended James Barry Robinson Catholic School. The family's last move was to Frostburg, Maryland where he completed high school at Beall High School.
Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force in October 1955. He completed a 12-week basic training at Sampson AFB, New York. From basic training he was sent to Warren AFB, Wyoming for twelve weeks of technical training in teletype operations. From there he went to Scott, AFB in Illinois for eight weeks of technical training as a cryptographer. Bob's first permanent assignment was Elmendorf AFB, Alaska, for three years. From there he went to Shaw AFB, South Carolina for three years, to Tanagra, Greece for two years, and to Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota for two years. While at Ellsworth AFB he met and married Deanne Greenwalt, his wife of 36 years. They married on May 2, 1963, and remained married until Deanne passed away on June 15, 1999. The couple had four children and made homes in Andersen AFB, Guam for three years and Griffiss AFB for 3 years. After New York, Bob went to the Vietnamese Theater for two years, where he was awarded a Purple Heart. He was then stationed back to Ellsworth Air Force Base where he retired after 22 years in the military. His years of services resulted in numerous training accomplishments.
Upon his retirement he was hired by Civil Service at Ellsworth AFB. He worked as an Administrative Supervisor at Civil Engineering Squadron and then Base Supply as Warehouse Forman. He retired from Civil Service in 2000 with 21 years of service as a civilian.
Bob was united in marriage to Carol Bennett on July 28, 2000, and remained married to her until her passing on August 2, 2009.
Bob was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church. He became a member of the Knights of Columbus on May 20, 2002 and was a member in the 4th Degree.
Bob loved his church, children, and grandchildren. He was a man of few words, but he showed his love by doing for those he loved. When talking, the family recalls him working on their cars, being their Sunday School teacher, painting their bedrooms with designs, working with them on improving their skills in sports, fishing, hunting, camping, and sharing his love of martial arts. If you knew Bob, you knew there wasn't a crossword puzzle too hard for him!
Grateful for having shared his life are two sons, Donald (Christina) Dorsey, Redkey, Indiana, and Kevin Dorsey, Rapid City, South Dakota, two daughters, Angela (Shaun) Rossow, Rapid City, and Debra (Todd) Hollan, Rapid City, his grandchildren Kelsie, Cooper, Jayme, Megan, Emily, Addisen, Erika, Chase, Melita, Cody, Heidi, Athena, Crystal, Tisa, Nikki, Dillion, and Erica. Bob also had a large extended family from his marriage to Carol Dorsey.
