Rapid City - Former California resident Robert L. Starkweather died Tuesday, September 26, 2023 in Rapid City. He was born December 2, 1925 In Clarksville, Iowa.
Bob served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean conflict. During this time, he married Margaret Lewin Wilson. She was originally from New York and they met in California. They were married until she passed away in 1983. Bob retired from the Navy as a Lieutenant Commander and then taught high school math in Fresno, California. He retired from teaching in 1984 and enjoyed fishing, camping, stargazing, bird watching, golfing and playing bridge.
Bob married Patricia Kelley Pahl, who also enjoyed golfing and bridge, in 1992; they moved to Rapid City in 2003. Pat passed away in 2019.
Bob is survived by two daughters, Sally Hoagland (Doug) and Jeri Starkweather (Larry Taylor) of Fresno; two granddaughters, Mary Hoagland of San Diego, and Anne Hoagland (Brian Unruh) of Sacramento; four great-grandchildren; and a step daughter, Cathy Stebbins (Dave) of Rapid City.
He was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and supported many worthy causes.
Visitation will start at 10:00 a.m. and the funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 2, 2023 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 910 Sioux San Drive, Rapid City, with interment to follow at 2:30 pm at Black Hills National Cemetery with full military honors.
