Robert J. Van Antwerp, 89, died on Tuesday, April 2, 2019.

Robert was born on January 6, 1930, in Johnstown, New York to John J. and Doris (Hartwell) Van Antwerp.  He graduated in 1947 from Gloversville, New York.  After high school he enlisted in the US Air Force and served all over the world, including Vietnam and Japan.  He retired in 1972 from Ellsworth Air Force Base as a Senior Master Sergeant after 22 years.  He worked in aircraft maintenance as a crew chief and as a flight scheduler.

Robert then enrolled in National College in Rapid City and earned an accounting degree.  He was later employed at area auto dealers as a service department scheduler.  Robert then worked as a custodian at First Baptist Church.  He served in many capacities at the church including Deacon.

Robert enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing traveling and many outdoor sports, especially skiing.  He loved spending time with kids.

He was a member of the Masons, Shrine, Elks, DAV, VFW and First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Velda Van Antwerp, of Rapid City; children, Michael (Jan) Van Antwerp, of French Camp, CA, Doris (Wayne) Rowe, of Suisun City, CA, Dian (Lowell) Wilson of Vicorville, CA, Dennis (Sheila) Davis, of Newcastle, CO, Dianne Davis, of Rapid City and Danise Kaps, of Jackson, CA; a sister, Shirley Lee and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Pat Van Antwerp, a daughter Debra and a sister, Marion Smith.

Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Monday, April 8, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9, at the funeral home.

Burial, with military honors rendered by Ellsworth Air Force Base Honor Guard, will be at 12:30 p.m.
