Roberta G. Moravec, 91, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at a local nursing home.
She was born October 20, 1925 in Tyndall, SD to Frank and Mary (Schneider) Balvin. Roberta attended grade school at a country school, graduating from Tyndall High School in 1943. She entered Nurses training at Sacred Heart Hospital, graduating in the spring of 1946. She worked there for three months before transferring to St John's Hospital in Rapid City.
On April 15, 1947, Roberta married Maynard Moravec at St Leo's Parish in Tyndall returning to Rapid City to make their home. She did not return to work until they had their home built and then went to work at Sears from 1951 to 1952, when their daughter arrived and helped her husband in his business for eight years. In the fall of 1961 she went to work for Haggerty's until retiring in October of 1990.
Roberta was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Parish and a member of Al-A-Non.
She had the love of always doing things for other people. Her talent of making quilts and crocheting afghans for her daughter and all of the grandchildren were her specialty. Roberta was always available to help someone in need.
She leaves to mourn, her daughter, Connie Murphy, Great Falls, MT, two grandsons; Chris Housiaux, Rapid City and Brian Housiaux, Omaha, a granddaughter, Amy Housiaux Hatchner (Steve) Great Falls, three great grandchildren, Sean, Zach and Alexis, a brother; Francis Balvin, Hot Springs, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard in 1997, her parents two brothers and three sisters.
A visitation will be held from 5;00pm until 7:00pm on Monday, February 13, 2017 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home followed by a Christian Wake service and recitation of the Rosary at 7:00pm.
A mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00am on Tuesday, Feb 14 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Interment will be in Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Hospice of the Hills. Friends may sign her online guest register at www.osheimschmidt.com.
