Obituary

Roberta Sue Greager, known throughout her life as Bobbi, was born in Dickinson, ND, on October 25, 1950 to Allen ("Al") and Ione Ungerecht. Bobbi grew up as the middle child in a family with five children: older siblings Larry and Kathy, and younger siblings Jean, and brother David.

Bobbi spent her childhood taking piano lessons, singing in the church choir, and working as a lifeguard at the community pool. She spent summers water skiing, swimming and working on her sun tan at the family's lake side cabin. Well-loved for her spirited personality, she was known for her impeccable sense of style and cruising around town in her 1964 Chevy Impala. After attending Dickinson High School, Bobbi graduated from Dickinson State College and moved to Denver. There she went to work for the DEA where she met her first husband, Dewey Greager.

The couple married in 1975, and so began a life of adventure. Two years later in 1977 Bobbi gave birth to their first daughter, Kimberly, and their second daughter Kristine in 1978. Bobbi and Dewey provided an idyllic childhood for their girls while his work took them around the United States, living in Colorado and South Carolina, and frequently vacationing in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Dewey retired in the 1980's, and they chose to settle in Rapid City, a place they had come to love. The family enjoyed many happy years until the Spring of 1997 when Dewey passed away. Tragically, a year later Kristine passed.

2002 was a wonderful year for Bobbi - she married Scott Sumner and the new couple enthusiastically welcomed their first grandchild, Morgan. While Scott and Bobbi were mostly content to be at home with one another, they also relished their own adventures; camping in Custer State Park, throughout the Black Hills and Badlands; going to live musical events; and, spending time in their beloved National Parks. Each year they visited Yellowstone and Rocky Mountain National Parks, in addition to occasional trips to Glacier National Park and other locations in the United States and Canada, watching wildlife and enjoying time in the mountains.

Between adventures, Bobbi worked for many years in customer service at what is now First Interstate Bank where she was a favorite of many customers and brightened the day of everyone she worked with. Always creative, Bobbi excelled in any craft she attempted. She was a talented seamstress and quilter who also loved to smock gowns for children and make bonnets for newborn babies.

Sewing for her girls, daily telephone chats, spending time with family, traveling, and camping with Scott made Bobbi's life complete. Her special and loving relationships with everyone in her life meant the world to her. She was, in every way, the epitome of a loving spouse, mother, grandmother and friend.

Bobbi died at home, at peace, with Scott's arms around her, on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at the age of 74. She was preceded in death by both parents, her first husband Dewey, and, most sadly, by her daughter Kristine. Bobbi is survived by her second husband Scott, by her daughter Kim, by her granddaughter Morgan, and by all four of her siblings.

We would all do well to emulate Bobbi's kindness and generosity of spirit that endured to the very last moment of her life. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you remember Bobbi through intentional acts of kindness and generosity, so that she may live on in your acts and deeds. You will be richer for it.

Her Celebration of Live Memorial Service will be 10:00 am Tuesday, April 29 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. A Reception will follow the service at the Rapid City Elks Lodge.

Burial of cremains will follow at Pine Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Rapid City.
