Obituary

Rock A. Whalin, 60, died at his home on Sunday, March 27, 2016.

He was born on February 7, 1956, in Belle Fourche to Robert and Nina (Enberg) Whalin.  He moved to Rapid City at the age of 4 and attended Rapid City Schools.  He graduated from Rapid City Stevens High School in 1975.

Rock was employed by Ron Robin Service Stations (Texaco/Chevron/Sinclair) in Rapid City until he went to work for Johnson Machine in 1984.   He has been employed by Johnson Machine since that time and was currently a warehouse manager.

Rock enjoyed his family, especially his nieces and nephews and was really a "big kid" who liked to play pranks.  He also liked cartoons and cartoon characters, working on cars, bicycling, motorcycling and boating.  He also loved animals, especially the cat Kiley and the 2 shih tzu's, Sammy and Sophie.

Survivors include his mother, Nina Whalin, of Rapid City; his sisters, Rita Ewing and Roxanna Barloon, both of Rapid City; his brother, Robin Whalin and his wife, Gay, of Rapid City and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father in January of 2016, an infant brother, Richard, a niece, Debbie Kutzke and a nephew, Richard Ewing, Jr.

Visitation will be be on Monday, April 4, from 6 until 7 pm, with a 7 pm Christian vigil service at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help (5th and Cathedral Dr).

Christian funeral mass will be offered at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help with Fr. Jonathan Dillon presiding.

Burial will be in Pine Slope Cemetery (St. Paul Section) in Belle Fourche at 1:00 pm.
