Obituary

Rapid City - Rolland H. Bud Brummer, 86, Rapid City, died at the Ft. Meade Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Ft Meade, Friday, October 22, 2010. Rolland H. Bud Brummer was born June 2, 1924 in Mapleton, Iowa to Herman and Josephine Brummer. Bud had six sisters, Ruth, Rita, Rozena, Rosella, Ramona, Alice and one brother Raymond. He was born and raised in rural Iowa. He always said he could relate to Bill Cosbys comedy sketch, stating we were so poor we ate dirt. His spiritual appetite, however, was well fed by the love and nurturing of his deeply religious mother. This strong relationship with God remained with him throughout his life. When World War II broke out, Bud gave all to the 94th Construction Battalion, spending four years with the Pacific Fleet. After the war, he met and married Rosemary Gaudio. With the birth of his two children Romy Thomas and Mike Brummer, his life was filled with love and caring for his family and dedication to his career choices. Buds desire to succeed led him to Rapid City and his ultimate goal of forming his own company, Custom Computer Services. It was around this time that a new chapter in his life started, as he met and married Kaaren Shewey and became the loving father to her young children Barb Blanchard and Brant Shewey. Throughout the years, Bud has become a familiar face in Rapid City, giving his time and energy to the Elks Club, Boys Club, the Chamber of Commerce and local charities. Bud loved his sports, watching basketball, playing golf, fishing or cheering on Post 22 to another win, along with trying his luck with a few hands of Texas Holdm. Buds true love in life was his family. Romy and Mike blessed his life with three handsome grandsons, Charlie Burggraff, Austin Brummer and Tyler Brummer and two beautiful granddaughters Michaela Connor and Natausha Jessen, plus eight awesome great grandchildren. His second family brought more joy to his days with another treasured grandson, Alex Blanchard plus four precious granddaughters, Krissa Shewey, Amber Shewey, Ashley Shewey and Brittany Blanchard. Buds cup was overflowing when Jesus ushered him into heaven on October 22, 2010. Bud is survived by his wife Kaaren Brummer; his daughter, Romy (Norm) Thomas, Rapid City, and their children, Charlie (Bobbie) Burggraff, Colton, SD and their children; Michaela (Shawn) Connor, Rapid City and their children; Natausha Jessen, Rapid City and her children; his son, Mike (Mel) Brummer, Rapid City, and their children, Austin Brummer, Colorado Springs, CO; and Tyler (Danielle) Brummer, Houston, TX; his stepson, Brant (Shelly) Shewey, Rapid City and their daughters, Krissa, Amber and Ashley; his stepdaughter Barb (Gregg) Blanchard, Lorton, VA and their children, Brittany and Alex; his sisters, Rozena Jonas, Sedro Wooley, WA; Ramona (George) Zediker, Burlington, WA and Alice Armstrong, Lynchburg,VA.
