Ronald "Sam" Liebig, 74, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2025 at Monument Health – Rapid City Hospital.
Sam was born in Rapid City on December 27, 1950, to Daryl and Genny (Nollsch) Liebig. Sam grew up in Rapid City and attended North Middle School and Rapid City High School. It was at North Middle School however where he met the woman who was to be his wife. Sam married Vicki Ellefson on December 26, 1970. Sam and Vicki grew their family to include two children, son Shane and daughter Misty. Together they shared 54 years of marriage.
Sam served honorably in the US Army and then returned to civilian life in Rapid City. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion – Hermosa, and a supporter of the Knoxville National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren while sharing his love and knowledge of racing.
He is survived by his wife, Vicki Liebig, children, Shane Liebig (Kyleen), Misty Cavanaugh (Brian), grandchildren; Kaycee (Andrew), Kane (Sydney), Tyler (Sarah), Finn, four great-grandchildren, brothers; Hip and Bill, sisters; KayAnn (Jerry) and Patty Jo (Wayne).
Sam was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Roy Dean.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 16 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. A reception will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Moose Lodge 1137 Rapid City.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to VFW Post 1273 in Sam's honor.
