IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ronald D.
Mcarthur
March 21, 1947 – November 12, 2021
Ronald Dee "Ron" McArthur was born March 21, 1947, in Riverside California to Earl T. McArthur Sr. and Dorothy Muriel Byrd and passed on November 12, 2021.
Many of his younger years were spent with his grandparents in Beaumont, Mississippi. He graduated from Rapid City High School in 1965 then joined the Navy where he spent three years in California before a tour in Vietnam. While in Vietnam, Ron was infected by a parasitic fluke (unbeknownst to him at the time) that manifests itself after 40 to 50 years and eventually resulted in the cancer that caused his passing. The Vietnam war just keeps on killing people! After leaving the Navy he attended the University of Texas, Austin and graduated with a degree in commercial art (graphic design) in 1975. In 1979, Ron returned to the Black Hills of South Dakota that he loved. He married Janet Ann Sikora June 14, 1980 in Spearfish and their son Matthew was born the following year.
After working for various printing companies, Ron worked at Northern Hills Training Center about 10 years doing facilities maintenance. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and 4-wheeling. Using his artistic ability, Ron carved beautiful diamond willow canes and walking sticks and donated the sale proceeds to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) which he also supported by donating and participating in fund raising events.
Ron was a boy scout leader for many years. One of the highlights during this time was a trip to Japan with Matt and a small group of other scouts.
He was a gentle man who loved people and animals. Whether it was chatting on the porch with neighborhood kids or taking training center residents fishing, he was always happy helping those in need.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Ron is survived by his wife Jan, son Matt (Rebekah) and brother Earl "Mac" (Jan).
