Obituary

Ronald J. Stevens, 67, of Rapid City died Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Ron was born Nov. 2, 1949 in Eldon, IA to Joseph and Vivian (Dorothy) Stevens.

He grew up in Newell and Rapid City, graduating from Rapid City High School in 1967 and Black Hills State University in 1972. Following college, he was the director of the Juvenile Detention Center of Pennington County.

Ron married Robin Jensen on July 15, 1978 in Rapid City.

Ron was a life-long entrepreneur and with Robin and his friends and business partners, they owned and operated Hara's in the mall, Clock Tower Lounge, Rushmore Waterslide Park, and most recently, Rushmore Embroidery and Screenprinting, to name a few.

Ron was a captivating storyteller and perpetual comedian. He enjoyed cruising on his motorcycle, tackling home improvement projects and working in the yard.

Ron is survived by his wife of 38 years, Robin, daughters Jaime (Ryan) Vollertsen of Centennial, CO, Emily (Gabe) Gatzke of Evans, CO, grandchildren Nolan and Josie Vollertsen and sister Janet Eichler, Newell, SD.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Jeri Michelson and Trudy Valandra.

Cancer's not for wimps!

A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at Rimrock Evangelical Free Church, Johnson Siding, on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at 1:00pm.

Ron was not a suit and tie type of guy; the family encourages casual dress including "Papa Ron" plaid shirts and cargo shorts.

A memorial has been established by the family.
