Obituary

RAPID CITY | Rosa June Stott, 90, passed away peacefully and quietly at her home with her family at her side on Sunday afternoon Feb. 15, 2015. The seventh of nine children, Rosa was born on June 3, 1924, at her family's home near Oconto, NE, to James and Fanny McNulty. It was Oconto that the family would make home until her seventh grade year when the family moved to Cozad, NE. In Cozad, Rosa would attend Cozad High School where she ran track and was a member of several relay teams. She graduated as a member of the class of 1941 and went to work in Stogdill's Grocery Store. In 1945, Rosa met a handsome, blue-eyed, veteran of the Army-Air Force named Fred Stott. Soon, he would become the love of her life. On the Fourth of July 1954, Fred would propose to Rosa. The two were married just a month later. Rosa gave birth to a daughter, Lana Lea, on Sept. 12, 1956, in Cozad. After living for several years in Newcastle, WY, Rosa and her family would settle in Rapid City, SD, in 1969, where she would begin work in Food Service at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology. Some of the most cherished years of Rosa's life were while she worked at the School of Mines in the Surbeck Center Snack Bar. It was there that she forged life-long friendships with staff and students alike. Though she retired from the School of Mines in 1986, Rosa's close friendships with the "Surbeck Roadrunners" continued to be important to her even during the final days of her life. In addition to being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was faithful to her Lord and Savior. Rosa was a member of the First Christian Church in Rapid City for 46 years. She was grateful for the many friends and members of her "church-family" who were near and dear to her. Rosa is survived by her daughter, Lana (Gene) Bussell of Rapid City; brother, Ralph McNulty of Bend, OR; sister, Margaret Mounts of Wenatchee, WA; grandchildren, Jim (Tausha) Bussell and Michael Bussell of Rapid City and Brianne Bussell of Des Moines, IA; great-grandchildren, Brendon Williams, Breiane Williams and Carson Bussell of Rapid City; and numerous nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. Rosa was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; her parents, James and Fanny; brother, Ivon; and sisters, Evelyn, Vivien, Mildred, and May. Rosa's family would like to extend a special thank-you and appreciation to the staff of Fountain Springs Health Care where Rosa called home the past two years. The Fountain Springs Staff became an extended family to her, and both Rosa and her family are very appreciative for their care and support. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, at First Christian Church with Pastor Scott Hultgren officiating. Interment will be at Pine Lawn Memorial Park.
