IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Roseann
Cartney
November 1, 1944 – January 8, 2016
RAPID CITY- RoseAnn Cartney, 71, died at Golden Living Center-Meadowbrook, on Friday, January 8, 2016.
RoseAnn Cartney was born November 1, 1944 to John and Bertha Schmitgen in Pierre , SD. Her life truly began when she met the love of her life Don Cartney. The two were married on May 6, 1961 in Kennebec, SD. To this union three children were born; Sharon, Rich, and Tom. RoseAnn spent this phase of her life being a mother and working as a printer for the Rapid City School Disctrict. Though she was a very dedicated, hard-working employee, Rose Ann always put her family first. Upon retirement, she was able to focus on being a grandma. She enjoyed spending time with her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. She and Don enjoyed camping, visiting their children, playing cards, cribbage, and listening to the laughter of their family.
Rose Ann was such a strong woman. She bravely faced many battles throughout her life and always stood strong relying on her faith and her family. She was an example to so many that your circumstances do not determine how you live your life. She greeted each day with a smile and a positive attitude regardless of what she knew that day would bring.
RoseAnn is survived by her three children: Sharon (Kevin) Martin, Rich (Laurie) Cartney, and Tom (Julie) Cartney; five grandchildren: Tami (Travis) Aschwege, Adam (Janae) Cartney, Elisabeth (Keaton) Kleiner, Rob Martin, and Rebekah Cartney; seven great-grandchildren; brother: Melvin (Darlene) Schmitgen and many wonderful nieces and nephews. RoseAnn was preceded in death by her husband, Don, her beloved grandson, Alex, and her parents. Her family would like to send a special thank you to all of the wonderful doctors and nurses who have cared for RoseAnn, including Dr. Mark Schroeder and Dr. Louis Raymond.
