RAPID CITY- Roxanne 'Rocky' Kindred Murphy, 50, died Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital. Roxanne Valerie Lee Murphy was born August 4, 1963 in Ellendale, North Dakota, and raised in Strawberry Point, Iowa, where she graduated from Starmont High in 1981. She attended the University of Northern Iowa and graduated from Black Hills State University in 1988 with a degree in English. Rocky has raised two wonderful children, Dustin James, age 30 and Hannah Lee, age 24. In addition to serving as a tutor at Black Hills State, Rocky worked for several years at Our Home in Parkston, counseling sexually and physically abused children; sold real estate and managed rental properties in Rapid City; and most recently worked since 1995 with her mother Glorine and father Charlie in their family-owned business, Old West Escrow Companies. Rocky met Patrick Murphy in 2006 and they were married in September 2008. She claimed these years together as the happiest in her life. She and Patrick traveled, cared for his two sons in the summer, worked together on their house and garden, entertained friends and family, and enjoyed life to the fullest. Her philosophy, "In all things, give thanks", guided her life and provided her the happiness and love that she shared with everyone she knew. Rocky was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all who knew her. She will be sorely missed, but we can be grateful for the time we shared with her and for her unconditional love for us. Rocky was preceded in death by her birth father Lawrence R. Lee, and her adoptive father Charles E. Hunt. She is survived by her mother Glorine Hunt, husband Patrick Murphy, son Dustin, daughter Hannah, daughter-in-law Cassie and granddaughter Gretchen, all of Rapid City; and siblings Charlie and Kathy, of Golden Valley, Arizona. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Savot officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.
