Ruby Pauline Cook, 90, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015, at Fountain Springs Health Care in Rapid City. Ruby was born Sept. 2, 1925, in Rapid City to Albert and Bertie (Stromme) Valsvig. She grew up in the Philip area and then graduated from Rapid City High School. On Oct. 15, 1943, she was united in marriage to David Hudson Cook. They remained on the farm in Hilland, SD, until 1956, when they moved to Rapid City. Ruby and Dave grew and harvested a large garden and canned many quarts of fruits and vegetables year after year. Ruby was an excellent cook and baker, she and Dave square danced frequently to burn off those calories! Grateful to have shared her life are her son, Dennis Cook, Mossy Rock WA; three daughters, Carla Anderson and her husband, Jim, Bassett, NE, Annette Christman and her husband, Dave, and Kayleen Fenenga and her husband, Jim, all of Black Hawk; nine grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dave; her parents; sisters, Emeline Carlson, Gladys Heiens, Esther Thorvoldson, Inez Campbell, and Ardrena Knutson; and brothers, Curt and Benny Valsvig. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with 6 p.m. prayer service on Thursday, Sept. 17hth at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at Calvary Lutheran Church, with Pastor Becky Piper officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
