Rapid City - Ruby Marie Zimmerman, 74, of Rapid City, died Friday, September 1, 2017 at the Regional Hospice House.

Ruby was born October 30, 1942 in Gettysburg, SD to William and Christine Hockesson. She graduated from Gettysburg High School and received her degree in nursing in Pierre, SD.

She married Jerry Zimmerman in Mobridge in 1964.

During her 20+ year career she passionately served as Operations Technician in the Mobridge Hospital.

Starting with her first diagnosis of cancer in 2012, she battled cancer heroically and courageously till the end.

She was ever so kind to everyone she met and would go out of her way to help whomever she could. She made sure that others were taken care of before herself.

She was a gentle and loving mother who gave everything of herself to her children and their friends. She was an adventurous mom who was always in her children's lives.  She was the best mom in the world! She will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Jerry; her daughter, Kimberly (Simmons) & Darrell Rave, and her granddaughter, Kelcy Marie all of Rapid City; one sister; two nephews, three nieces, two sister-in-law's and one brother-in-law.

Ruby was preceded in death by her precious son, Jeffrey Zimmerman in 2015, her parents, William and Christine Hockesson, parents in law, Sam and Sophie Zimmerman, great grandparents, Jacob and Lydia Zimmerman, and two brothers-in-law.

The family requests memorials be made in her memory to the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center in Rochester, MN and the Hospice House in Rapid City.

A visitation will be offered from 5:00pm until 7:00pm on Tuesday, Sept 5, 2017 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30am on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017 at South Canyon Lutheran Church with Pastor Bruce Thalacker officiating.

Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery.
