Ruth Skyberg, 81, Rapid City, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love of her family, Monday, Sept. 28, 2009. Ruth was born to Ernest and Sadie Schanink, September 7, 1928 in Madison, SD. Ruth graduated from high school and took some college courses. Thereafter, she took up court reporting. She married Boyd Skyberg in 1949 and had two children, Starr & Bruce. The family moved to California for one year and returned to Rapid City in 1959. She accepted a position at the YMCA as the sole secretary. She then worked as a secretary for several attorneys and insurance companies in Rapid City. Her last and most favorite position before retiring was as a Blue Cross Blue Shield sales representative from 1972 to 1982. Ruth was a wonderful seamstress and enjoyed cooking, bowling, fishing, boating, hunting and most of all, spending time with family. Grateful survivors for having shared her life are her husband, Boyd, daughter Starr Kahler and her husband, Bill, Rapid City, son Bruce Skyberg, Rapid City, two grandchildren, Angela Orr and husband, Dennis, Rapid City, Chad Skyberg, San Diego, CA, Step grandchildren, Sherry, Mike and Don Kahler, great grandson, Travis Orr, Rapid City, two brothers, Alfred Schanink, Colorado Springs, CO and Robert Schanink, Mena, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother. Visitation will be 1 hour before the services which will be at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, October 1, 2009 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with Pastor Donny Williams officiating. Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
