Obituary

Black HawkRyan M. Gramberg, 16, of Black Hawk, died unexpectedly from an unforeseen heart condition after collapsing at a football camp on Monday, July 14, 2008. Ryan was born on September 14, 1991, in Burlington, Colorado, to Greg and Susan (Lawrence) Gramberg. The family moved to Rapid City in 1992 and to Black Hawk in 1994. Ryan attended Black Hawk Elementary School, Dakota Middle School and Stevens High School, where he would have been a junior this fall. Ryan was active in Boy Scouts and was in the process of completing his Eagle Scout Project. He was also a Black Belt in Taekwondo, active in varsity football and threw shot-put and discus in varsity track. Ryan also enjoyed camping, snow skiing, snow boarding, four wheeling, water sports and antagonizing his sister Sara, although he loved her and his younger cousins very much. Ryan was sweet, kind, caring and had a gentle soul. He was respectful, loving, resourceful and always the kid that you wanted to be around. He was the first person to volunteer for what needed doing. Ryan will be sorely missed by his family and friends, and the family wishes to thank everyone for their outpouring of sympathy and support. Grateful for having shared and celebrated his life are his parents, Greg and Susan Gramberg and his sister, Sara Gramberg, all of Black Hawk; his maternal grandparents, Elwin and Doris Lawrence, Hay Springs, NE and his paternal grandparents, Merlyn and Karleen Gramberg, Chadron, NE; his aunts and uncles, Robyn and Bob Baquet and family, Samantha and Nicolle, of Chadron, Michaelle and Chris Stout and family, Brody and Easton, of Rapid City and Kandee and Scott Gooch and family, Dyllyn and Kaylee, of Rapid City. He was preceded in death by his Uncle, Jerry Lawrence. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m. today, at South Canyon Lutheran Church, 44th & Brookside, in Rapid City. Ryans celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 18, at Rapid City Stevens Carold Heier Gymnasium, with Rev. Bruce Thalacker and Rev. Chris Baesler officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Rapid City. A luncheon will follow the burial at the church. A memorial has been established at Highmark Federal Credit Union.
