Obituary

Rapid City – Sally K. Ecker Wall Griggs passed to glory on December 9 th , on her 88 th birthday. She will always be remembered as an amazing cook and baker with nobody surpassing her skills. She was talented at sewing, cross stich, crochet, and knitting. She enjoyed her numerous containers and loved to send family home with her baked goods if they promised to return the containers back to her. She joked and told us that someday when she passed, she did not want flowers at her funereal on those pedestals they used. She only wanted a jar of peanut butter, popcorn and coffee placed on them. She also loved her 10 AM glass of wine for medicinal purposes only she claimed.

Sally was born in Sioux City, Iowa on December 9 th , 1932 to Peder and Amalia Ecker. She was the third child of four. Her oldest brother Peder K. Ecker, her sister and best friend, Phyllis Torgerson, and brother Eugene will greet her in Heaven along with her parents and other relatives and friends.

She married Donald Wall whom she met while working at the FBI in Washington, DC. They moved to Denver and had two children, Mark and Laura. They spent most weekends camping and boating at Horse Tooth Lake where she was an amazing water skier. They moved to Rapid City and then Boise, Idaho. Sally moved back to Rapid City with the kids and began a new life. She become a clerk for Rushmore Mutual Life Insurance Company and purchased a home all on her own. She was know for her multitude of wigs and extraordinary fashion sense at work. She met Norman Griggs at her high school reunion and married a year later.  They had been married for 48 years.

She fought a strong battle after a serious car accident leaving her with a permanent back injury eventually leading her full time to a wheelchair. She tested positive for Covid-19 on December 1 st while living in her memory care unit at a facility in Rapid City. We believe she still recognized Norm and her daughter Laura up to the end.

She is survived by her husband Norman (Rapid City, SD.), Mark and Lisa Wall (Stockbridge, GA.) Laura and Matt Mehlhaf (Rapid City, SD.), stepdaughter Tracy Griggs (Reston, VA), three granddaughters: Alicia, Andrea and Shaundra, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and many loving friends.  Services provided by Osheim & Schmidt will be held at the Black Hills National Cemetery for family only due to Covid-19.

A celebration of her magnificent life will be held later.

Be free mom, walk, skip and dance once again with your loved ones in heaven. You will be missed daily, thought of constantly as we hear your laughter from our memories over cups of coffee.

Those that wish to send a memorial could choose the Canyon Lake Senior Center. Sally spent many hours preparing for their garage sales and brining home treasures.
