"I did it my way" March 12, 1937, to November 27, 2011 RAPID CITY - "Bill" can be remembered for many things during his diverse and exciting life. Starting his working life as a fireman on the Northern Pacific Railroad out of Dickinson, ND, Bill conquered the lodging world with a humble beginning by purchasing a 12-unit La Belle Lodge in Belle Fourche, SD. This led to a life of hands-on involvement in over 200 properties as a builder, operator, developer and owner. Davies Development was the only one branch with developing the Super 8 Motel chain another. His side endeavors included a commercial laundry company, a race track, bank proprietorship and real estate. Bill worked indefatigably with charitable organizations. His efforts as a distinguished benefactor for Rapid City (SD) Regional Hospital, director of the Phoenix Suns Charities and board member of the Phoenix Memorial Hospital were all passions. His friends and family remembered him differently. We remember him as a father, grandfather, mentor and friend. We remember Christmas at the cabin, the boat at Pactola and late night calls to him when he was needed. The one person we all turned to. The person who would do his best to fix anything. Bill will join children, parents and Shirley in Belle Fourche and the afterlife. His children, Samantha, Kristie, Brian, Tony and Denise along with grandchildren, Stella and Brandon thank you for joining us to pay respects. He will be missed and thought of. Services were held Nov. 29 in Rapid City.
