Piedmont - Sandra J. Richards, 77, of Piedmont, SD died Monday June 9, 2014 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD. Sandra was born May 8, 1937 to Les and Gladys Dresselhaus. She attended school in New Albin, Iowa and continued her education in LaCrosse, WI and Chandron, NE. On September 6, 1959 she married Virgil Richards in Reno, Minnesota. Sandra taught elementary school for 38 years in the Rapid City school system, and was honored to be Teacher of the Year. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma and the Grace United Methodist Church in Piedmont. She loved reading, doing puzzles, gardening and spending time with her family. Survivors include her husband: Virgil Richards of Piedmont, SD; daughter: Kathy Thompson and her husband Ken of Alliance, NE; son: Jay Richards and friend Sheila Quiroz of Englewood, CO; grandchildren: Andy Thompson of Longview, TX and Ashley Thompson of Omaha, NE; brother: Robert Dresselhaus and wife Sandy of Palo, IA; and sister: Sheryl Welper of New Albin, IA. Memorial services will be 10:00 am Monday, June 16, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, 2700 Jackson Boulevard with Rev. Karl Kroger officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Cemetery, Rapid City. A memorial has been established to the Grace United Methodist Church in Piedmont, SD.
