DEADWOOD- Sarah Lee Messer Hammett, 97, died Thursday, January 18, 2024 in Rapid City, South Dakota.

She was born December 20, 1926 in Oakdale, LA to Rhoda Minnie Bond and John Franklin Messer. The family moved to Port Arthur, TX which is where she met James E. Hammett whom she married in 1946 when he returned from fighting in WWII. The couple then moved to San Antonio to attend International Bible College. They have four children—Beverly, Paul Richard, Jamie, & Dana—along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, & great-great-grandchildren. In 1995, Jim & Sarah moved to South Dakota where they became active members of their church and community and made many lifelong friends. Sarah was a shining light and deeply loved by all who knew her.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 26 at Big Bend Presbyterian with Rev. Gary E. Pokorney officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to services.

Burial will take place privately at Black Hills National Cemetery.
