Sheila Emma Achbach died peacefully in the Catholic faith and in the company of her loving family on May 8, 2024.

Born April 4, 1948 to Alfred and Inez Evens in Deadwood, SD, Sheila was the eldest of five children.

She graduated from Deadwood High School in 1966 and shortly after, her family moved to California. There, she met Robert Achbach, and they were wed on June 11, 1971. From this union, three children were born.

In 1978, Robert and Sheila moved to Rapid City and raised their children. Sheila enjoyed the company of her close extended family in the Black Hills, and she loved being outdoors, camping, and boating with them. Her Catholic faith and devotion to the Eucharist and Mary were a constant part of the Achbach home life. She instructed her children in the teachings of the Church and taught them to pray. Later when she was a grandmother, Sheila supported her grandchildren in many school and church activities. As an active member of St. Therese Altar Society and Catholic Daughters, Sheila helped provide food for many funerals and parish events.

When Sheila got older, she suffered with dementia which eventually required nursing home care. Sheila's family is grateful for the care she received at Good Samaritan New Underwood, Avantara St. Cloud, and Monument Health.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Robert Achbach; sons Bryan (Joanne) Achbach, and Rev. Kevin Achbach; daughter, Cheryl Achbach (Ryan Mickie); grandchildren Katherine, Jacob, Megan, and Daniel; siblings Jerry (Carol) Evens, Nancy (Douglas) Jennings, Pamela Evens, and Leon (Ellen) Evens.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Alfred and Inez Evens.

Visitation will be at 7pm on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at St. Therese the Little Flower Catholic Church with a Vigil Service at 7:30 pm.

Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:30 am on Monday, May 13, 2024 at St. Therese the Little Flower Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, Sheila's family would appreciate mass intentions and prayers to be offered for the repose of her soul.
