IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sheryl L.
Hendricks
September 27, 1937 – July 16, 2023
RAPID CITY- Sheryl L Hendricks, 85, died Sunday, July 16, 2023.
Sheryl was born on September 27, 1937 in Tyler, MN to , Lee and Virgille Messerschmidt. She graduated from Madison Normal Teacher's College in 1957 at Madison, SD. Sheryl married Roger Hendricks on August 17, 1958 in Brookings, SD and subsequently had three children, Todd, Jodi and Chad.
Sheryl played live organ music at the Pipestone roller rink, and she and Rog formed their own dance band. They played around the Brookings area for dances, at VFW, Elks and dinner clubs. Sheryl was an accomplished organist and played for many functions throughout her life while also teaching organ and piano lessons.
Sheryl's love for music was evident by all who knew her. She could often be found at her living room organ with the front door wide open and volume cranked up enough for half the block to hear. She brought smiles, laughter and togetherness to us all through her love of music.
Sheryl enjoyed teaching. She taught at Pipestone MN country school at Brookings consisting of all eight grades in a one room schoolhouse. She also taught at Wilson and Pinedale Elementary schools in Rapid City.
Sheryl was our family's matriarch and the glue that held us all together. She was a devoted wife and an amazing mom, grandma and great grandma. Sheryl was passionate about her family and being a homemaker-always updating our home décor to the seasons and holidays while making sure milestones were aptly celebrated. She was an awesome listener and always knew exactly what to say to ease your thoughts yet leave you feeling in control and loved.
Sheryl will be greatly missed by all who knew her. But most of all, by her surviving family including husband, Roger, kids: Chad (Amy) and Jodi (Doug), five grandkids: Ashley (Patrick), Brandon, Tawnya (TJ), Tristan and Kaeman, six great grandkids, her brother Loyal and her sister Lonnie. She was preceded in death by her son Todd and her parents.
Sheryl's memorial service will be held July 28, 2023, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home followed by interment at Mt. View/Calvary cemetery and luncheon at South Canyon Lutheran Church. We welcome your fellowship.
