Obituary

Des Moines, Iowa Shirley Hinds, 76, Des Moines and formerly of Rapid City, died January 1, 2012 at Des Moines after a courageous battle with cancer. Shirley was born January 15, 1935 to Donald and Thelma Graham in Chadron, NE and grew up and went to school in the Rapid City area. She married Robert Hinds in 1952 and they moved to Des Moines in 1965 where she worked at Jonnys Vets Club until it closed in 1993. She continued to work in food services until she ended her career at Winstons in downtown Des Moines. She had many hobbies and past times, but her true passion was quilting. She was a long time member of Rather Bee Quilters and a proud member of the Red Hat Society. Shirley was loved by many for her quick wit and heart of gold, and will be missed by all. Survivors include her mother: Thelma Welsey; one sister: Gale Keyser; one daughter: Christine Hinds; three brothers: Donnie, Billy, and Kevin Graham; two grandsons: Rob and Christopher Hinds; and one great-granddaughter: Mallory Hinds. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband: Robert; father: Donald Graham; and step-father: Charles Welsey. Memorial contributions can be made to Animal Rescue League in her name. There will be a Memorial Service at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Des Moines. There will be Cemetery Services at 11:00 am Monday, January 9 at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD with Rev. Bob Jacobs officiating.
