Shirley E. Speck, 89, of Rapid City, died at her home on Thursday, March 15, 2018 after a 6 year battle with Alzheimers.

She was born on December 10, 1928 to Charles and Ruth (Buckle) Strong in Woburn, Massachusetts.

Shirley grew up in Stoneham, MA. with her twin sister Charlotte and older sister Jeanne.

Shirley loved to rollerskate. In 1951 she met Herbert Speck when they collided while skating in Revere Ma. with her cousin Beverly(NC) where Herbert was stationed in the Army.

The two were married on June 14, 1953 in Wessington Springs, SD.  Living there for 2 years. They returned to Stoneham Ma. where they lived for 60 years. They had 2 sons Herbert Jr. (1954) and Gregory (1962).Their house was a gathering point for her family. She loved her sisters' children like they were her own. She never missed anything they and their children were involved in. Dance , skating, sporting events, she was always there. She loved people and worked as a waitress at the Pewter Pot in Medford Square for 30+ years.

In 2014, they moved to Rapid City to be close to their family in SD.

Shirley's life love was taking care of her family, whether it be her aunts, her children or her mother. She had 5 grandchildren; Tyler (Jenni) NH, Ashley, Travis, Trevor (Ma) and Amber (SD), 5 greatgrandchildren; Aria, Miles, Lira , Noelle(NH) and JJ. (MA) and many nieces and nephews in New England and South Dakota.

A visitation will be offered on Monday, March 19, 2018 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, March 20 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, followed by interment at Black Hills National Cemetery.

A memorial has been established to Shirley's Day Care in appreciation of the wonderful care they gave to Shirley.
