Rapid City – Stanley "Stan" Oestreich, 77, died Monday, October 30, 2023 at the Department of Veteran Affairs – Fort Meade.
Stanley Ray Oestreich was born March 31, 1946 to Richard and Rachel (Baum) in Marshall, MN. He grew up on a farm near Revere, MN and graduated from Walnut Grove High School. His senior year he was co-captain of the undefeated football team, student body president, honor student, and band president. He enlisted in the US Navy for 4 years active duty and 2 years reserve duty. He went as far East as Turkey and as far west as the Saigon River in Vietnam. He was given Honorary Shipmate award while serving on the USS Intrepid while on a reserve cruise. He met and married June Bell of Greenock Scotland while serving in the navy and together they raised 5 children: Christopher Steven (Crystal) Oestreich, Audrey Dawn (Wayne) Moser, Timothy Lee Oestreich, Leslie Ray (Joseph) Bacorn, and Michael John Oestreich.
He received an associate degree in Electronics from Southwest Minnesota State University. He worked at Sencore Inc for 4 years in engineering/sales, at IBM for 27 years as a customer engineer and was awarded three IBM Means Service Awards and two suggestions awards, started his own business and retired as a subcontractor for DecisionOne.
Stan was added to the Lord's Kingdom when he was baptized at the Cleveland Ave Church of Christ in Sioux Falls, SD in 1972. He has since served the Lord in many activities within the church.
Stan was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Rachel, one brother Martin Paul, and one sister Catherine Irene.
He is survived by his wife of 55 plus years, all of his children, four grandchildren: Sara Jean Herman, Brennen Erickson, Jacob Bacorn, and Luke Bacorn; two brothers: James (Karla) Oestreich and Robert (Laurel) Oestreich; and one sister: Judith Curwick.
Stan's hobbies included home improvements (under the supervision of June), photo and video editing, fixing things, helping friends, and discussing politics. He was a lifetime member of the DAV and American Legion.
Visitation starting at 9:30 am and funeral service at 10:30 am on Friday, Nov. 3 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.
Burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery with full military honors.
