Stanley B. Zakinski, 87, of Rapid City, passed away Saturday, November 27, 2021, at the Monument Rapid City Hospital in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Stan was born September 29, 1934, in Buffalo, New York, the son of Stanley and Clara (Grabowski) Zakinski. He married Aloise Gladys Wilson in August of 1971.
Stan started his career as a juvenile officer and in 1979 finished at the top as Chief of Police of the Rapid City Police Department. He graduated from the FBI National Academy on March 28, 1974. He served in the US Navy from October 1951, to September 1955. He worked in home security for several years and then went into private investigations. He was a Shriner, and a member of the Elks Club and the Moose Club. He was a dedicated member of Westminster Church of Rapid City, where he served as a Deacon.
He is survived by his wife, Aloise; one son, Stanley D. Zakinski and his wife Janice (Luthy), of DuQuoin, Illinois; one stepson, Doane Robinson; and one stepdaughter, Lezlie (Robinson) Haggerty and her husband Tim, of Rapid City; one niece, Nancy (Majors) Zdon and her husband Bruce; one nephew, Greg Majors of Buffalo, New York; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Eleanor Agnes (Zakinski) Majors; and one daughter, Sandra (Zakinski) Rothluebber.
Funeral services will be at 4:00pm on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at Westminster Church, 1012 Sioux San Drive in Rapid City. Pastor Bob Jacobs will officiate. A light reception will follow the service.
