RAPID CITYStephen P. Archie Archer, 57, Rapid City, passed away at his home on Thursday, April 17, 2008. Stephen Patrick Archer, was born in Newcastle, WY, on March 22, 1951, to Floyd E. (Bob) and Rosalie C. (Teigen) Archer. He was the 3rd of eight children. The family moved to Rapid City in 1966. Steve graduated with honors from Rapid City High School in 1969. He worked in the construction industry for several years and had a part in building many of Rapid Citys most prominent structures; and not so prominent, like ball fields, and bus shelters. While supervising a part of the construction of Merillat Industries, he was offered a position and became one of the first employees. He has been senior finish supervisor since 1984. Arch lived the outdoors and was an avid bowhunter of elk, moose, deer and antelope, even after by-pass surgery in 1989. He was also known as an excellent marksman. Many hours were spent in the Hills on his Harleys and he and Fritzi enjoyed touring the country. When asked what he was most proud of, the answer was inevitably, his family. He married LaNice Fritzi Hansen in October of 1973. Two children were born, James Stephen in 1974 and Jodi Elaine in 1978. Many wonderful days were spent on the lake boating with his kids, friends and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 34 years, LaNice; his son, James and daughter-in-law, Candace and his daughter, Jodi Marchesso and son-in-law, Bobby. The absolute joys of his life were, Skylar Archer, his grandson and his granddaughter, Arianna Marchesso. He also reveled in the roll of step-grandpa to young Steven. Also surviving are three brothers and four sisters, numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents. Archie will always be remembered for his intelligence, wit and integrity. He lived by his word and commitment to family, country and nature. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, at Calvary Lutheran Church, 5311 Sheridan Lake Road, with Pastor Dwight Stensgaard officiating.
