Obituary

Steven Lloyd Hudson, 65, formerly of Rapid City, SD died Friday, October 17, 2025 at his home in Gresham, Oregon.

He was born Wednesday, July 27, 1960 in Rapid City, SD to Paul and Dorothy (Dustrude) Hudson.

Steven led a life full of family, friends, motorcycle touring, and exploring the corners of the West. After growing up in Rapid City, he lived in Oakland, CA (while serving the Army) and Vallejo, CA, Kingman, AZ, Warm Springs and Gresham, OR. In his early career he worked in California for almost 15 years in both residential and commercial cabinetry, a career inspired by his father and brothers, and also in construction work. California also provided the setting for the arrival of his children and eventually grandchildren. Steve had a huge heart and enjoyed every moment with his children and grandchildren. When he was not around them, he worried about them, and did his best to support them and beamed with pride when talking about them. Work injuries brought that career to an end and he moved back to Rapid City to pursue a college degree at the Oglala Lakota College where he received an Associate of Arts Degree in Chemical Dependency Counseling and was just a few hours short of earning his Bachelor's Degree in Social Work. True love took Steve off to Arizona where he worked as a mental health counselor with teenagers, followed by a period in Oregon as a mental crisis counselor. A brief stint back at cabinet making and other odd jobs preceded a moved to Gresham, OR where his life came full circle. Steve loved to take long motorcycle rides to the ocean, through the mountains, and particularly in the quiet of his favorite touring destination, the Black Hills of South Dakota. Steve strove to practice and lean about his Lakota heritage which became a center to his life. He was a singer and drummer; and participated in the cultural gatherings and ceremonies of his ancestors. Steve struggled though his life with the grip of dependency which he was determined to overcome. He knew what work to put that chapter behind him so that he could enjoy life more fully, and enjoy the people around him that he loved. His efforts continued up until his passing which sadly came too soon. He will be remembered for his big heart, his love of family, and his big smile.

Survivors include his children: Summer Rae (Jeff) Boyd and their two children: Jordon Cedric Boyd and Thais Marie Boyd; Johnathan Calvert Lucio and his two children: Kade Lucio and Luca Lucio; Robert Hudson; Michael Hudson; Marilyn Marie (Tyler Jarmin) Hudson and their three children: Gia Noelle Jarmin, Mila Ray Jarmin, and Jade Louise Jarmin; Chynna Marin (Alejandro Lopez) Hudson and their two children: Zara Isabella Lopez and Zelie Lillyanna Lopez,  Victor Eagle Eye (Theresa) Hudson and their future child to be born on November 16, 2025: Kenai Lloyd Hudson; Martina Adams, and Ophelia Lutz; special friend Ilana Cabillo; his siblings: sister Gloria Rittenberry of Ashland City, TN; sister Paulette (Donald) Montileaux of Rapid City, SD; brother Paul (Deb) Hudson of Portland, OR; and sister Geraldine "Geri" (Bill) Eby of Broad Run, VA; several nieces and nephews.
