Obituary

Susan A. Goodwin passed peacefully into Heaven on March 11, 2024 with her daughters and family by her side.

Susan was born on April 6, 1942, in Rapid City, SD, to Maurice and Helen Biernbaum. She was dearly loved by her parents and her grandparents, Morton and Blanche Biernbaum and Earl and Norella Fry.  Susan was active as a child modeling for local clothing stores and was also selected to be Little Miss Sunbeam for Sunbeam Bread in Rapid City.  She attended school in Rapid City and graduated from Rapid City High School in 1960.  In 1962, she married Kirk Goodwin and they had two daughters, Kristin and Kimberly.

Susan was active in both girls activities at all times and never missed a game, recital, match, or event they were in.  Susan's love for animals was enormous. There were always dogs and cats in the house.  She even allowed the girls to rescue any animal in distress and take it to the vet.  Her love for animals definitely rubbed off on to her daughters.  Later, Susan bought some land and renewed her love for horses and also had a small herd of cows.  She loved the Kentucky Derby and hosted many Derby parties until she and the girls decided to attend it.  They watched American Pharoah win the Kentucky Derby and American Pharoah went on to win the Triple Crown.  Susan was a member of the Marshal's Posse and thoroughly enjoyed trail riding, parades and camping with this group of great friends.  Susan's favorites were always her grandchildren: Haden, Hanah and Brittney. She loved overnight stays, baking cookies and playing with the kids and she also never missed an activity they participated in.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Maurice and Helen Biernbaum, and her sister in law, Debra Biernbaum.

Susan is survived by her daughters, Kris and Kim (Dave) and her brothers, Mark Biernbaum (Gail), Robert Biernbaum (Sonya) and her grandchildren, Haden (Riley), Brittney (Trajan) and Hanah.

Visitation will take place Friday, March 15 from 5-7 pm at Osheim-Schmidt Funeral Home.  A service will take place on Saturday, March 16 at 10:30 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.  Her family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Peaceful Pines Memory Care and Good Samaritan - St. Martin Village Assisted Living for their amazing care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any local animal shelter or Youth and Family Services.
