IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Susan "Sue"
Joan Brinkman
October 30, 1954 – January 2, 2021
Susan "Sue" Brinkman, 66, of Rapid City passed away Saturday, January 2, 2021 at her home.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, January 9 th at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Rapid City with Rev. Bob Jacobs officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Rapid City.
Sue was born October 30, 1954 in Rapid City, SD to Robert and Helen Williams.
As a child, Sue was outgoing and a natural-born leader. She was a social butterfly and enjoyed the company of others. She was spunky and strong-willed. No one messed with Sue. She was a ballerina, played the clarinet, and could often be found baking with her mom.
As a daughter and granddaughter, Sue was a caregiver. She visited everyone regularly and helped with whatever needed to be done. She brought joy to their lives and she cherished the memories of time spent with each of them.
As a mother, Sue always baked the most impressive treats for the cake walks at the school carnivals. She led Brownie troops, cheered for baseball teams, and made the best Halloween costumes. She was proud of every achievement and hosted many celebrations along the way.
As a grandmother, Nana Sue was enthusiastic in her affection, always offering encouragement and hugs… and sweet treats. She created a welcoming, fun space for her out-of-town grandkids to stay and for her in-town grandkids to hang out.
As a sibling, Sue was the "cheerleader." She was supportive and protective of her loved ones. Not a birthday or anniversary passed without a kind note from her. She shared in their joys and consoled them in their trials.
As an aunt, better known as Aunt Suitcase, she welcomed every baby in the family with joy. Her nieces, nephews, and their children always had a place at her table and in her heart.
As a professional, Sue most recently worked as an administrator at the front desk for Butler Machinery in Rapid City. Sue maintained life-long relationships with coworkers and continued to bring her famous cheeseballs to the office during the holidays long after she retired.
As a friend, Sue was vibrant and engaged. She took some fun vacations and built great memories. She enjoyed every opportunity to chat over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine.
As a member of the community, Sue volunteered in a variety of ways and lovingly tended to her neighbors. She particularly enjoyed her time serving at the Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo. She loved to garden and took great pride in creating a beautiful backyard space. Sue was an active member at Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she found a loving, welcoming community and grew in her faith.
Sue is survived by her children; Nichole (Terry) Meyers of Roseville, CA, Brett (Madge) McManigal of Rapid City, brothers; Bob (Glenda) Williams of Rapid City, Dr. John (Dena) Williams of Denver, sister; Jean Smith of Rapid City, five grandchildren (Morgan, Leah, Allie, Trevor, Jack) and her beloved dog, Zoe.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents.
