Susan Larson, 72, died Friday December 22, 2023, at home surrounded by loved ones.

Susan was born on April 11, 1951, in Rapid City to William and Dorothy (McNeill) Ashmore.

Susan passed away shorty after learning of her metastasis from her breast cancer she was in remission with since 2020. Leaving behind her loving husband of 49 years, Clarence Larson, daughters: Jennifer, Kendra, Kristin (Ryan); Grandchildren: Ethan, Malea, Caleb, Quinn, Jace, Keely, Kye, Korbin, Von; Great Grandchildren: Kingsley, Kasen; Brothers: John Ashmore, Tom Ashmore, Tim Ashmore; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and special friends.

Susan graduated from Rapid City High School in 1969 and proudly expressed "Once a Cobbler, Always a Cobbler" throughout her years. She often shared stories of her days working at the Walk-in Beauty Shop on West Blvd and Rice Cycle. She worked over 20 years at Prairie Edge before starting her in-home daycare. She retired in 2016 upon learning of her Esophageal Cancer.

She belonged to the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Red Hat Society, The Moose, Black Hills Daycare Association, and shared many laughs at her Wednesday night Bunco gatherings. She often reminisced with her lifelong friends about their days cruising 8th Street and all the good times shared with good friends. She loved attending her daughters' softball games, all her grandchildren's events, and all the fun to be had in the summers at Angostura…ask about the time they were out late on the boat looking for the Loch Ness Monster!

She enjoyed car rides through the Black Hills and visiting her family spread across the states. She celebrated her 60th birthday in Hawaii and shared an amazing Alaskan cruise with family and friends. The highlight of her travels was going to visit the vast green scenery of her family roots, where her sister Marsha gifted her and family a trip to Ireland.

Susan was often referred to as the Matriarch of the family; planning family reunions, keeping the family in touch, and taking care of family needs. She had a great love and knowledge of her family's genealogy. If anyone had a question about our family history or the name of... she was the one to call.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, siblings: Norman, Myrna, Bill, Marsha, Don; nephew: Patrick, niece: Cindy.

Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.

Funeral Service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at the funeral home with Fr. Kerry Prendiville presiding.

Graveside services will be at 3:00 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
