Obituary
Sylvia B. Olson, 90, of Rapid City, passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Sylvia Lorvig was born in Starbuck, Minnesota on November 10, 1926 to Ole and Ida (Bergee) Lorvig. She grew up near Starbuck on the family farm and graduated from Starbuck High School in 1944. Sylvia graduated from Concordia (MN) College in 1948 with a Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics. After college, Sylvia taught Home Ec in Graceville, MN and then moved to Thief River Falls, MN to work at the County Extension Agent.
While working in Thief River Falls, she met Wallace 'Wally' Olson and they were united in marriage on June 2, 1951, in Starbuck. Wally was a Hospital Administrator for Lutheran Hospitals and Homes and his work took them to Loveland, CO, and Hot Springs.
Sylvia and Wally moved to Rapid City in the early 60's and purchased a dry cleaning business on the corner of 5th and St. Joseph.
Sylvia enjoyed golf and teaching Hardanger, a Scandanavian embroidery. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors include 2 sisters, Kathryn (Earl) Stein, of Moorhead, MN and Helen Nelson, of Two Harbors, MN and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents , her husband Wally in 2007 and a sister, Evelyn Bruer.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25, at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Wilbur Holz officiating.
Inurnment will be at 1:00 p.m. in Black Hills National Cemetery.
