Rapid City, SD - Talis Marvin Tapio, 22, died Wednesday, January 22, 2014 in Lake Park, Georgia. Talis Marvin Tapio was born January 13, 1992 at Rapid City, South Dakota to Galen Paul and Yvonne "Vonnie" Gail [Hargens] Tapio. He attended school at South Canyon Elementary School, West Middle School, and graduated from Rapid City Stevens High School in 2010 He married Sophie Schwandt in October of 2010. Talis entered the United States Army in January of 2011 and was a member of the 19th Calvary Scout of the 101st Airborne Division and was stationed at Fort Campbell TC, Kentucky. Talis was honorably discharged in July of 2013. After his discharge, he returned to Rapid City and was employed with Black Hills Works. His passion was hanging out with his friends, playing video games, reading books on philosophy science, music, and of course driving his corvette. Survivors include his parents: Yvonne "Vonnie" and Galen Tapio of Rapid City; three sisters: Tessa M Tapio of Ft. Campbell, Kentucky [serving in Afghanistan], Taylor M. Tapio of Rapid City and Raven L. Tapio of Rapid City; and grandparents: Marvin and Donna Hargens of Miller, SD; honorary family members: Barb, Dave, Luke, Heath, and Chance Bsharah and several cousins, aunts, and uncles. Talis was preceded in death by his grandparents: Nelson and Jean Tapio, Aunt Kelly Ann Tapio and Aunt Karen Tapio. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 pm Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 12:30 pm Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, 2700 Jackson Boulevard with Rev. Dwight Stensgarrd officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 pm at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with Military Honors provided by Rushmore VFW Post #1273 and South Dakota Army National Guard.
