Obituary

RAPID CITY | With great sadness, the family of Teresa Marie Usera announces her passing on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at the age of 73, after a 14-month battle with cancer.

Terry was born as Christel Wilhelmina Steigerwald on Dec. 11, 1944, in Bad Homburg, Germany to Rosa Steigerwald. Due to hardships after WWII, John and Celeste Colford adopted her in 1955. Her name changed to Teresa Marie Colford.

While attending Minot State University, Terry met the love of her life Luis Usera and they married on June 18, 1966. Together they had seven biological children and three adopted daughters.

Terry was very active throughout her life with the church lay ministry as a Eucharistic Minister, Homebound, Lector and in other church organizations. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She volunteered with hospice care and fostered many children through the years. Terry also loved to watch her children and grandchildren's activities, play pinochle and loved a good game of Farkle.

Terry will be especially remembered for her love of God, love for her family, her compassion for the sick, and her commitment to the Church.

Terry is survived by her longtime husband of 52 years, Luis Usera Sr.; her sons Luis (Holly) Jr. and Robert (Nichole); daughter Christle; adopted daughters Cassandra, Kayla and Kelsey; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers: Herbert Steigerwald, Tom (Carmen) Colford, and Jack (Margaret) Colford.
