Obituary

Terry Lee Begeman (68) was a wonderful husband, dad, papa, and friend. He unexpectedly passed away on October 8, 2021, doing what he loved; hunting with his son and grandson near Mud Butte SD. Terry and his loving wife Valerie (Dahlin) were high school sweethearts from Centerville SD, who committed to their love story on May 17, 1974, at Komstad Covenant Church in rural Beresford SD.

He is survived by his wife Valerie, son Corey (Kristen) Begeman of Rapid City SD, daughter KaCey (Myles) Dixon of Brandon SD. His beloved grandchildren Cameron, Khloe, and Kora Begeman, Bailee Struckman, Brielle, Sam, Uriah, and Harper Dixon. Mother Mariam Begeman of Centerville SD. Sister Cindy (Max) Blanc of Oakland NE. Mother-in-law Betty Dahlin of Lead SD. Terry was born on January 16, 1953, in Viborg SD to parents Herbert and Mariam (Hansen) Begeman. He attended Centerville public schools and enjoyed playing basketball under the streetlights, visiting with his Grandpa Julius at the Co-op, riding his bike to Grandma Helga's, fishing at the dam, and spending time with his dad at the car dealership pumping gas and washing cars. As a teen, you could find Terry burning a little rubber in his '58 Ford Fairlane 500 and drag racing his many cars at Thunder Valley Dragway in Parker SD. Tho, when his little sister Cindy was born, he wouldn't leave his mom's side. As a young adult, he went on to attain his associates degree in Business at Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls. He was anxious to marry the love of his life Valerie, and eventually become a third-generation owner of Begeman Ford. After college he enjoyed fishing, hunting with his dad, nurturing his two children, and being close to family. In the mid 80's the family moved to Palm Springs CA where he managed several auto dealerships for the Kemp Auto Group. He enjoyed golfing, watching his kids' activities, winters in the desert with his parents, working with the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, and sitting poolside with Valerie watching the kid's swim. From California they made their way back to South Dakota settling in Rapid City to be closer to family. His auto career continued at McKie Ford until he and Valerie joined forces in the real estate business working at ReMax and Coldwell Banker. Real estate gave Terry more flexibility to travel, attend kids' activities, flip houses, golf, hike with his faithful Labrador retrievers, hunt, and fish with his kids, spend time at Betty's cabin with family, and watch his grandchildren grow. In his retirement, Terry enjoyed traveling, RV'ing, spending time at Hart Ranch, volunteering, gardening, his newfound love of Pickle Ball and the circle of friends it brought, watching the Black Hills sunsets with Valerie from their deck, and most importantly the abundant time with his family.

Terry is preceded in death by his father, Herbert Begeman, Father-in-law, Royce Dahlin, and grandparents. Terry was taken too soon…however, he lived an extraordinary life surrounded by people who adored him. Terry attended Parkview Evangelical Church in Rapid City for over 10 years, where his walk with the Lord thrived. With his strong faith in Jesus Christ, we know he heard the words, "Well done, my true and faithful servant. Welcome home where you belong."

Please join us as we celebrate Terry's life at Canyon Lake Activity Center in Rapid City SD on Saturday October 23, 2021, from 1pm-3pm. Just as Terry and Valerie's life began together at Komstad Covenant Church in 1974, their journey home will conclude there as well. A graveside service will be held at Komstad Covenant Church in rural Beresford SD on November 6, 2021, at 1pm. Following the service, the family invites you to gather at the fellowship hall for refreshments.
