Obituary

Ted Muffat, of Rapid City, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025, surrounded by his family and holding hands with the love of his life, JoAnne.

Born on July 11, 1958, in Rapid City to Robert and Bernadine Muffat, Ted lived his life with a generous heart, a calm and patient spirit, and a deep unwavering love for people. His kindness and warmth left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Ted attended Rapid City Central High School and proudly served in the United States Army. Following his military service, he began a successful career at Boeing in Everett, Washington, where he took great pride in working on the iconic 747 and 767 aircraft. Later, he returned to his hometown and continued his work career with Runnings, where he found joy in serving his community.

On June 7, 1989, Ted married JoAnne Lee Brave, and together they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and devotion. Ted was a cherished husband, a loving stepfather to Stefanii, a proud Papa to Brian, Brandon, Adlee, and Nathaniel, and a joyful Great-Papa to Stella, Isabella, Philip Joe, LeAnne Jo, and Khurage.

Ted found great happiness in coaching his grandchildren in baseball, basketball, and softball—always encouraging them to play with heart and have fun. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing. His loyal German Shepherds were constant companions, never far from his side. Ted also held a deep respect and admiration for Native American people and culture, living his life with compassion, generosity, and a commitment to treating others with dignity and kindness.

Ted's legacy is one of love, humility, and connection. He will be deeply missed, but the joy he brought to others and the lives he touched will continue to shine brightly.

Ted is preceded in death by his parents; Robert and Bernadine Muffat, and his father and mother-in-law, Mark and Viola Brave.

Ted is survived by his beloved wife, JoAnne; his stepdaughter, Stefanii, grandchildren Brian, Brandon, Adlee, and Nathaniel; and great-grandchildren Stella, Isabella, Philip Joe, LeAnne Jo, and Khurage. He is also survived by his brothers, Bob (Sylvia) of Rapid City and Jeff of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 9:00 am to 10:30 am Monday, November 10, 2025 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home and funeral service will be at 10:30 am. Burial will follow at 12:30 pm at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD with full Military Honors.
