Obituary

Therese "Terry" Shoener, 86, of Rapid City, died, Wednesday, November 30, 2016, surrounded by many who loved her.

Terry was born in Sioux Falls, August 23, 1930, to Clarence and Margaret (Cranny) Marion. Her family moved to Rapid City in 1946. She graduated from Cathedral High School in 1949.

She married Jerry Shoener on April 2, 1951, in Rapid City. Six children were born to this union, all of whom are college graduates. Terry was blessed with eleven grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Terry owned and operated New Neighbors Welcome Service and was a great ambassador for the area as she welcomed many new residents to Rapid City.

Terry was a leader in the community, serving as a member and chairperson of the advisory board of the South Dakota Council on Aging. She was instrumental in the creation of the Diversified Investors, where she was not only a member but also served as an officer. Terry was proud of being a CMU blood donor for new babies and donated often. She was very active at the Canyon Lake Senior Center, where it was her passion to teach line dancing. She conducted home economics cooking classes for the Black Hills Power and Light Co. Terry had a beautiful voice and she sang in her church choir for most of her life. She was a Grand Lady of the Knights, an auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus and a past officer of the Jaycettes. Terry was always up for a good game and participated in multiple bridge clubs. All of her family agree that her greatest accomplishment was being an incredible mother and wife.

She was preceeded in death by her parents, brothers LeRoy and Donald and sisters Margie and Veronica. She is survived by her husband, Jerry; sons Scott (Dulcie) Shoener, Whitefish Bay, WI; Rand (Tamie) Shoener, Orlando, FL; Kevin (Derek) Shoener, Weehawken, NJ; Daniel (Karen) Shoener, West Lake Village, CA; daughters Colleen (Craig) Groseth, Rapid City, SD; Kerri Ann (Eric) Wehrenberg, Denver, CO; grandchildren Tegan and Nathaniel Shoener; Austin and Kayla Shoener; Heather (Beau) Simmons, Matthew (Jalene) Shoener and Ashley Shoener; Cara and Chani Groseth; Anna and Ella Wehrenberg; and great-grandchild Benjamin Shoener.

Terry had many great friends and a large family that loved her deeply. Even as her memory faded with Alzheimer's she was quick to let friends and family know that she loved them.
