Thomas Jacob Laurilla died on Wednesday, August 19, 2009, at the Canistota Good Samaritan Center. Thomas was born on February 23, 1942, in Aberdeen, SD to Toivo and Anna (Vaaraniemi) Laurilla. He grew up in Frederick, SD, attended school there until he was 10 years old, then moved to Cokato, MN after his father died and his mother married Oscar Kotila. Tom graduated from Cokato High School and attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, MN, where he was certified in welding of various metals. Tom was a welder in many states for many years. He leaves to mourn his sisters, Alice Schad, Black Hawk and Helen Meza, Terrebonne, OR; his daughter, Jennifer Montgomery and two grandchildren, Jeremiah and Hannah Montgomery of California; two step-brothers, Martin (Joyce) Kotila and George (Doris) Kotila and a step-sister, Impie (Dean) Olson, all of Cokato and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father, a brother-in-law, Calvin S. Schad; 2 step-sisters and a step-brother. Visitation will be from 9 until 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 24, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. at Pine Lawn Memorial Park with Pastor Preston Brown officiating.
